Dante PMB - Russel High: coltivare l'Italiano per il futuro

The Project
This project continues the successful 2023–2024 collaboration between the Dante Alighieri Committee of Pietermaritzburg and Russell High School, a public girls’ school. Despite afternoon classes usually being reserved for sports, several students voluntarily chose to study Italian and six passed the official PLIDA A1 Juniores exam.
Encouraged by this success, enrolments for 2025–2026 have grown. The new phase will include two free 40-hour Italian courses (80 hours total) and 30 hours for material preparation, led by two qualified teachers. The goal is to further promote Italian language learning and strengthen ties with South African schools.

Expanding Horizons
4 Key Aspects
A
Continuation and consolidation

B
Promotion of Italian in public schools
It introduces free Italian language courses in a school setting where foreign language teaching is not commonly offered.
C
Official certification (PLIDA A1 Juniores)
Participating students have the opportunity to earn an internationally recognized language certificate, valuable for academic and career paths.
D
Growth and engagement
With increased enrolments, the project aims to expand and strengthen the connection between the Dante Committee and South African education.
